Squishy at 6 Months Old...

Friday, September 23, 2011

Jackson had his 6 month appointment last week and it went really well! It's kind of fun to compare him with Emma when she was six months old to see the difference. At six months, Emma weighed 15 lbs 6 ounces, where Hambone Jackson weighs 18 lbs 9 ounces! They are actually the same exact height, both were 26 inches at six months. Jackson actually weights a pound heavier now, then Emma when she was nine months old. :)

He is right in the 50th percentile for height and head circumference, but jumped up to the 75th percentile for weight. That's my squishy!!

Poor little man got four shots and one oral vaccine. We are heading back in a month to get his flu vaccine booster as that was one of his shots today (Emma also got her flu shot today too...so it sure was a fun night when Squishy raged a fever of over 103 and Emma at over 101). Ack.

Along with the flu shot, Squishy got Diphtheria, Pertussis, Polio, Hib, Rotavirus, Hepatitis B a Pneumococcal vaccines. Ouch. We got the go ahead to start squishy on some new foods (no meats yet though), but yogurt, puffs, some juice and expand our fruit and veggies! The little man is doing great and growing bigger every day!

 Age: 6 Months Old!

Weight: 18 Lbs 9 Ounces, 75th Percentile

Height: 26 Inches, 50th Percentile

Size: Jackson is in 9 month clothes now, with even some of those getting pretty tight around the waist. Any clothes for winter will be in the 12 month size, which will probably be too long for him now, but fit him in the width.

Movement: I was right during my 5 month update in that by the next time I did this, he would be crawling, and he is!! Squishy started crawling at 5.5 months. He still does the army-crawl, but is up rocking back and forth on his hands and knees all the time. Just in the past two weeks, he has gotten much faster with his army crawl and is all over the place. He still loves to stand, and although he can't get that way himself, if you hold him in the standing position, and put his hands on the ottoman, he can stand there by himself. Yikes. We are SO in trouble with this one. :)

Teeth: Still waiting for those two bottom teeth to pop through!! We check him daily because it can only be a matter of time at this point, although we have been saying that for weeks now!

Sleeping: Over the past couple of weeks, Jackson has backed-off his bedtime to just around 7:00PM now. He was consistently going to bed at 8:00PM with his big sister but he now DEMANDS to go to be at 7:00PM. If we don't listen, we pay the price. Ha! Sometimes its a stretch to even get him to 7:00PM! He still sleeps until about 6:15 in the morning, with about an hour long morning nap and a 2 -3 hour long afternoon nap. So we lucked out and (so far), have another good sleeper on our hands.

Eating: Jackson is a bit ahead of Emma at this age in that we have been on breakfast, lunch and dinner for about a week or two now. This is one department that he has NO issues with what.so.ever. We have been through peaches, pears, applesauce, prunes, mango, bananas, green beans, carrots, sweet potatoes, peas, squash, zucchini, mixed veggies and mixed fruits. He really likes the homemade stuff much better than the alternative, so for the most part, we have been feeding him homemade apples, pears, green beans, carrots, sweet potatoes and zucchini. Hopefully we will expand out homemade variety soon! Remember Emma's Puff experience? Well, we are about to start that journey with Squishy as well! Which of course will also be documented. :) Jackson is still on the same amount of formula, 6 ounces about 4 - 5 times a day. I have a feeling dropping bottles and moving towards real food is going to be an easy transition for him.

Milestones: Crawling!!!

Favorite Things: As I was thinking about what Jackson's favorite things are, I started to laugh because its funny what babies like. For example, despite the fact that Squishy will be surrounded on the floor by tons of baby toys, he will either crawl right to the remote control, or the wipes. He is definitely a boy. :) He becomes more in love with his big sister everyday, and still loves to snuggle. Although you have to pick the right times now because if he is feeling good, he will fight you tooth and nail to get down so he can be on the move. If he isn't fighting to get down, he is fighting to sit up, roll over on your lap, stand up, jump, crawl over your shoulder, turn around, then turn around again, then lay down, then sit up again, the crawl over your other shoulder, no wait, crawl over your head, etc. He is a mover and a shaker. BUT, if you catch him about 30 minutes before bed, get him snuggled up in his jammies, he will just lay in your lap like the little love-bug that he is. He won't squirm. He won't cry. He won't move a muscle. He will just wrap his chunky little fingers around one of yours, or lay his hand on your arm, just to know you are there.

Dislikes: Jackson will now tolerate peas, but bananas are a no.go. On the other hand, Emma will eat the baby food bananas in a heart beat. Go figure. Probably the biggest dislike Squishy has is going to be anywhere else besides his crib. He wants his crib, and he wants it n.o.w.

Words: Still no words or sounds yet. He still loves to happy-scream at the top of his lungs and blow raspberries!

Personality: Not much of a change here. Jackson is still a happy baby with an incredible smile that will turn your day around in less than a second. He also flirts! He is a ladies man in the making. :) He still has that little manly temper though!! He usually likes to be on the floor, and on the move during the day but when it comes to that last hour before bed, he wants to be held. Every.day.
